MARSH CREEK INVITE

Marsh Creek Brethren-in-Christ Church invites the community to an outdoor concert and picnic this Sunday at 10 a.m. The worship service will be followed with a Southern Gospel concert and picnic. The concert will feature a father and son duo from Ohio. The church will provide the meat for the picnic and congregation members will bring a covered dish. If you’d like to bring a covered dish to share that would be fine, but not necessary. Bring your lawn chairs to be more comfortable to sit around the picnic pavilion in the shade and enjoy the morning.

On Friday evening, June 16, the church will be having an outdoor hymn sing and fellowship time at the church pavilion. Bring your lawn chairs to sit more comfortably during the hymn sing.

Vacation Bible School will be held at the church on June 25-28. A picnic will kick off the start of VBS on Sunday evening at 5:30, but all the other evenings VBS begins at 6:30 p.m. Heavenward Ho is the theme this year. All children (and their parents/drivers) are welcome!

For more info you may call Pastor Dan at 814-625-3544, or email him at [email protected]

LAMAR CONCERTS

Lamar Lighthouse Camp is starting their summer concerts on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m.

On June 11 the featured musicians will be Glory Way and on June 18 the singers will be the Victory Trio. Both groups are from Ohio. The concerts are free to attend, but a love offering is taken during the service.

Lamar Lighthouse Campground is located along Route 64 in Lamar.

For more info call Lynette at 570-337-0203.

COUNTRY JAM

The Back Porch String Band hosts the Country Jam at the Howard fire hall each month on the fourth Sunday from 1-6 p.m. The only time Country Jam won't be held is during December because of Christmas. The next Country Jam will be held on June 25.

YARD SALES

Snow Shoe and Clarence area yard sales will be June 8-10.

Beech Creek-Blanchard community yard sales will be June 9 and 10. There are craft vendors and yard sale tables set up in the Friendship Community Center during the yard sales. The kitchen will be open on Friday and Saturday so be sure to stop in and get hot dogs, kraut dogs, Texas dogs and hamburg bbq along with soda and bottled water. Restrooms are also available.

Unionville yard sales will also be on June 9 and 10.

Millheim yard sales will be June 16-17. Also the Springfield Development area near Zion.

FOOD DISTRIBUTION

The Howard United Methodist Church holds food distributions twice a month, the first Thursday and third Friday of the month, beginning at 5 p.m. The next distribution will occur on Friday, June 16. After recommendations from our Pennsylvania State Police, we will be changing the route of the distribution because of the possibility of other emergencies on the previous route. Help would not be able to respond to that emergency, so taking the recommendations provided to the church, DO NOT start lining up before 4 p.m.

The new route will be as follows: Turn onto Spearing Street in Howard and then make a right onto Rothrock. The traffic will be held there until 4:30 p.m., and then you would make a left onto Black Street, followed by a right turn onto Grove Street and proceed to the church. For more info. call Patti at 814-625-2182.

CLASS OF 1967

Joyce Beaty will be hosting the 56th class reunion for LHHS Class of 1967 on June 24 at 2 p.m. The Beaty house is located at 153 Beach Street, Blanchard. The charge will be $5 per person made payable to LHHS Class of 1967 and mailed to Georgette Rupert, 57 Mapes Road, Beech Creek, PA 16822.

THANK YOU

Thank you to those who attended the Fairview Cemetery Memorial Service last month. A special thank you to Dave Etters, the church pastor, for bringing the memorial message.

Thank you to the Milesburg American Legion Honor Guard for their participation. Thank you to those who dropped a donation into the collection cans at the service that is used to pay for the cemetery grass mowing and upkeep.

Thank you to Tim Rickert who does the mowing and keeps the cemetery grounds looking nice.

If you have loved ones buried at the cemetery and would like to send a donation to help with perpetual care costs, please send your contribution to treasurer, Gail Richner, 1376 Little Marsh Creek Road, Howard, PA 16841.

PAINTING PROJECT

Howard Mayor Deb Simoncek is looking for volunteers to help improve our borough hall in Howard. The borough building is badly in need of painting, which will require scrapping first to remove old paint and then maybe a day to get the new paint on (if enough help). The condition of the wood does not allow for a power wash to get the old paint off. Howard Borough will provide paint and the scaffolding.

If you are able and willing to help out, even for a few hours, please let Deb know by calling 814-625-0054.

HERITAGE DAYS

The 7th Annual Heritage Day Festival will be held on June 10 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Recreation Park in Lamar. Local celebrities are needed to volunteer to sit in the dunk tank!

There's live music, a kid's tractor pull, craft and food vendors, a corn hole tourney (if more contestants sign up), and so much fun for the whole family. The festival will end with a fireworks display at 9:15 p.m. in the field across from Dotterer Equipment on Route 64. Don't park along Route 64 for safety reasons, but rather pull into the field to watch the fireworks.

For more festival info call Linda at 570-295-1052.

KIWANIS WINNERS

The winners of the Mill Hall Kiwanis Club's spring raffle are as follows:

Cody Raup, Dennis Chaplain, Danielle Ward, Wes Burrows, Amber Hockenberry and Robb Grimm.

MT. BETHEL’S PAINTING

Lisa Badger will be doing an Annie Snyder presentation at the Mt. Bethel United Church of Christ (along Route 64) this Sunday, June 11, at 9 a.m. during the worship service. Lisa's presentation will focus on Annie Snyder's "The Good Shepherd" painting which hangs in Mt. Bethel's sanctuary. The public is welcome to attend and the event is free of charge.
