Two public hospitals in Pietermaritzburg have been without telephone connection since last week.
KwaZulu-Natal Health Department spokesperson Ntokozo Maphisa confirmed the disruption to Grey’s and Northdale hospitals’ telephone services and assured the public that contingency plans were in place to minimise the inconvenience this could have.
“The department is aware of a disruption to the telephone service at some of its hospitals under Umgungundlovu District.”

“We are working on resolving this challenge, and remain confident that the situation will soon return to normal. In the meantime, we have put in place a contingency plan to mitigate the impact of this, which includes the usage of mobile phones, which are accessible around the clock,” said Maphisa.
He urged the public to use alternate numbers 066 2980 888 for Grey’s Hospital and 073 925 0746 for Northdale Hospital casualty, and 063 181 7788 for Northdale’s matron.
