Here’s Why The 2024 Polestar 4 Has The Most Advanced Car Interior Yet

Apr 10, 2023

We reckon the Polestar 4 houses perhaps the most minimalist, eco-friendly and most advanced interior in the entire automotive spectrum.

Although the company is largely in its infancy, Polestar has made a lot of progress in what is an increasingly competitive segment. The company's latest offering, the Polestar 4, is an all-electric performance SUV coupe, eyeing the Tesla Model Y.

It's worth pointing out that the Polestar brand has been well-received across the States and in Europe. With the Polestar 4, the company is widening its reach to prospective EV buyers who’d fancy a stylish coupe SUV.

Before the brand's first-ever EV rolled out, Volvo used the Polestar name tag to market tuned versions of its regular models. Though several of these Polestar Engineered products were revealed, it wasn't until the Polestar 1 that the brand had its first mainstream offering. Its first EV, however, was the Polestar 2, a 408-horsepower midsize electric car exuding sophistication and elegance. The Polestar 4 builds on that idea but utilizes a different platform called the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA).

Initial impressions are beyond impressive, with Polestar elevating the simplicity game to a whole new level. In fact, we reckon the Polestar 4 houses perhaps the most minimalist yet advanced interior in the automotive realm. Here's why.

EV makers do generally boast about recycled interior trims and seat upholstery, but Polestar took the idea and turned it to eleven. It looks as though the company is quite obsessive about sustainability and the like. For example, Polestar follows a mono-material approach when it comes to interior materials. This, according to the company, allows them to be recycled more effectively and efficiently by eliminating the need for incompatible materials to be separated before recycling.

In the Polestar 4, the brand focussed on more low-carbon materials, thereby replacing traditional solutions. New interior materials include a tailored knit textile consisting of 100 percent recycled PET, along with bio-attributed MicroTech vinyl and animal welfare-secured Nappa leather upholstery. MicroTech is a bio-attributed vinyl that replaces crude oil with pine oil in its construction.

According to Polestar, the tailored knit upholstery is a new technique for the automotive industry. Inlay carpets in the interior are made using recycled PET, while floor carpets are made using ECONYL, developed from reclaimed fishing nets. Specific door trim panels are made from NFPP (natural fiber polypropylene), resulting in a weight saving of up to 40%.

Step inside the Polestar 4, and you’ll instantly recognize the familiar Volvo design features. The interior is devoid of buttons, similar to what we find inside the Polestar 2. Interior commands such as adjusting the air conditioning, radio, and media, are all controlled via the touchscreen.

In terms of comfort and convenience, the Polestar 4 is filled to the brim with state-of-the-art luxury features that are on par, if not better than most of its rivals. The interior is dominated by a 15.4-inch landscape-oriented screen that floats above the dashboard, contributing to a minimalist, space-conscious layout.

The interface is powered by Android Automotive OS and gets built-in Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play Services. Of course, Apple CarPlay is also available in the 2024 Polestar 4. As for the interior ambiance, the cabin offers a rich and airy feel, with most of its canopy being made of glass. Also, the primary touchpoints, be it the steering wheel or indicator stalks, feel well-crafted and premium to the touch.

The Polestar 4 also features a 10.2-inch driver display and a head-up display (HUD) with a 14.7-inch projection area. In addition to the customization, the instrument cluster displays the speed limit and other vital roadside information in an easy-to-read visual format. The HUD, on the other hand, relays key vehicle, telephone, and navigation information to the windshield, further improving driver attentiveness. A clever ‘snow mode’ function for the HUD switches the text color from white to yellow, improving visibility in snowy environments.

Safety is part of Polestar's DNA, owing to its Volvo roots. As standard, you get twelve cameras, one radar, and twelve ultrasonic sensors in the Polestar 4. The array includes a driver monitoring camera, which monitors the driver's eyes and head movements to help avoid incidents related to fatigue or incapacitation.

The 2024 Polestar 4 is offered with up to nine airbags. You also get automatic high-beam assist, lane-keeping assist, and auto emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Additionally, the Model Y rival gets lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Also, worth mentioning is that the 2024 Polestar 4 is the fastest production car the brand has ever developed. Versions with the 544 horsepower dual-motor setup get a 102 kWh battery, propelling the EV to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds. The SUV coupe gets an estimated range of over 300 miles, with a starting price close to $60,000.
